| S/Ldr PIETRZAK Henryk
Born on 6 March 1914 in Ruda Pabianicka.He underwent flying training
being called up for military service to 4 Air Wing in Torun. He was
then posted to the Air Force Training Centre No.1 at Deblin. During
the September 1939 war he was evacuated to Romania, from where he got
to France. In France he was called up for the newly forming Polish
air force. In the French German war he fought within a section of Groupe
de Chasse III/9 near Lyon and then at Dijon. Being evacuated to Great
Britain, he underwent conversion training. Then he flew sorties in
the first line-up of No. 306 (Polish) Fighter Squadron City of Torun.
On 16 August 1941 he shot down in a combat a German Bf 109. He was
also credited with a kill of another aircraft a Fw 190 on 9 October
1942. On 31 December 1942 he shot down another Fw 190; that was the
500th aircraft shot down by Polish pilots in the West. In between operation
sorties he was testing prototypes of RAF
For his combat merits he was decorated with: Silver Cross of Virtuti Militari War Order No. 09678 awarded on 10 February 1943, Cross of Valour and three bars, and Distinguished Flying Cross awarded on 9 February1945. After demobilization he remained in Great Britain.
For a number of years he had a farm. He was the president of a breeder sassociation. Died on 28 January 1990. |
