GORZULA MIECZYSLAWBorn on 1 August 1919 in Cracow. In 1936 he graduated from a buisness schoolin Cracow. In 1937, after having completed qa flying training course, he became a civilian instructor pilot at Centrum wyszkolenia Lotnictwa (Air Force Training Centre) at Deblin. In august 1939 he was drafted to 2 Pulk Lotniczy (2nd Air Regiment) at Cracow, in which he fought in defence of Polish sky. He reached france via Rumania. After the fall of France he was evacuated to Britain. In Britain, after conversion training at OTU at Aston Down, he was posted on to no.607 Squadron RAF. With this unit he participated in the Battle of Britain. On 16 May 1841 he was posted to no.302 (Polish) Fighter Squadron Ciy of Poznan, and subsequently (on 4 November 1941) he was transferred to no.87 Squadron RAF at Colern. On 16 March 1942 he returned to no.302 Squadron. On 20 August 1942 he was awarded Krzyz Walecznych (Cros of Valour). On 23 April 1943 he was an instructor at no. 58 OTU Grangemouth. On 7 July 1943 he received a bar to his Krzyz Walecznych. On 10 November 1943 he was appointed Flight Commander in no.315 (Polish) Fighter Squadron Deblin. From 31 July 1944 he served for two months with no. 306 (Polish) Fighter Squadron City of Torun, and subsequently was assigned to Polish Air Force Inspectorate. On 17 November 1944 he returned to combat fying, becoming a Flight Commander in no. 309 (Polish) Fighter Squadron Ziemia Czerwinska. On 9 April 1945 he shot down a German Me 262 jet fighter. On 25 May 1945 he returned to HQ Polish Air Force, and on 14 June was posted to HQ 133 Wing. From 8August he was an InteligenceOficer at RAF Colttishall.
